Description

1950 Bentley Mk VI

Cutaway Technical Illustration

The illustration was originated by Douglas Newton a retired professional technical illustrator.   During his long professional career, Douglas provided his technical artwork services to many blue chip oil companies and the aircraft industry.  Some of his technical illustrations for Concorde were displayed in the Science Museum. Douglas is a longstanding member of the ISTC – a professional body for technical communicators.

Technical information:

  • This cutaway illustration is unique.

  • The references for this illustration were Bentley engineering drawings, photographs of the Bentley chassis at Hunt House and Douglas’ own Bentley Mk VI.

  • The Bentley cutaway illustration originated by Douglas has been entirely hand drawn starting with a pencil on tracing paper which was then traced in ink on to drafting film.

  • The original artwork is A0 size (1189 x 841mm) and was produced and scaled using a three point perspective grid.

  • The illustration was scanned using an A0 size drum scanner and the image produced on to a CD, so that this large artwork could be professionally printed.

The illustration is being offered as A2 size (594 x 420mm) limited edition of 100 prints.  The prints are in black lightfast ink and printed on to acid free 120gsm art paper.  Each print can be provided with a small card plaque that has a title, date drawn, the name of the illustrator and a RREC or BDC logo which can be added to the frame mount.  These limited edition prints will be numbered and signed by the illustrator and supplied with a certificate of authentication.

Douglas is a member of the RREC and would like to thank Philip Hall for his technical help, and staff members at Hunt House for allowing him access to the club workshop.
